Shaw Healthcare’s Mental Health Conference 2016

Shaw Healthcare held a Mental Health Conference on Tuesday 12 July 2016 at the NEC, Birmingham  which I had attended representing Wright Mind Training Services Limited.

After Zahra Conway from Shaw Healthcare had welcomed everybody to the venue, Dr Antonis Kousoulic from the Mental Health Foundation gave the Opening Keynote speech which focused on the work currently being undertaken around mental health.  After lunch Natasha Devon MBE provided a passionate overview of how we need to invest in our young people’s mental health.

Six one-hour workshops were available of which three could be attended throughout the day –

a) Reactive Attachment and Sexual Offending

b) Mindfulness in the Workplace

c) My Therapist Eats Grass: Exploring the benefits of equine facilitated psychotherapy for mental health

d) Sensory Theraplay with Vulnerable Children

e) “Walking on Seesaws” – an empathetic look at Anxiety Disorders

f)  Self-harm Awareness

The three workshops I attended were insightful, inclusive and educational.

In summary, I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to attend the Conference and to network with other like-minded individuals who are involved in working with people and promoting issues on mental health.  I took  away new information, knowledge and resources.
