Raising awareness of mental health – February 2016

It’s been a busy and rewarding few weeks for Wright Mind Training where we have been delivering the two-day Mental Health First Aid Youth workshop in Barton upon Humber to employees who work with young people working on their physical health and wellbeing.  Feedback included “Very informative course which comprehensively covered a number of topics around supporting young people’s mental health”

We have also engaged with Kingsway Consulting who are supporting  Scunthorpe steelworkers who are at risk of redundancy and have delivered The Way Forward which focuses on mental health and the impact of redundancy, positive steps that can be taken to look after one’s mental wellbeing but also provides lots of tips around positive health,  job hunting, job interviews, goal setting, training opportunities etc.

The two-day Mental Health First Aid Standard workshop has been delivered on the Scunthorpe Longs Products/TATA site to increase the number of Mental Health First Aiders.  A great group of people who understand the importance of talking about mental health/mental ill-health amongst colleagues and those employed on the Scunthorpe site.  Feedback includes “Enjoyed the course and the discussion with colleagues, now feel far more confident and aware of mental health issues”, “Overall a good, well laid-out course”.Standard_logo_RGB

Yesterday (Tuesday 23rd Feb), we attended North Lindsey College’s Health and Social Care Fair and were impressed with the students stalls (and the professionals) who were promoting awareness of health and social care issues.

In the midst of this activity, Children’s Mental Health Awareness week followed by BBC’s excellent coverage of mental health with documentaries such as “The Not so Secret Life of the Manic Depressive  – 10 years on”, “My baby, Psychosis and me”, “Life after Suicide” and “Professor Green: Suicide and Me”.
